Founded in 2019, BTB’s mission is to bring beer which embodies the spirit of Kesennuma’s people and distinct local culture to the world. Although Kesennuma has a long tradition of sake brewing, the city didn’t have a beer to call its own, so head brewer James Watney moved to Kesennuma from Portland, OR to make this dream a reality.
With a varied lineup of beers that includes everything from lagers, to ales, to IPAs, Black Tide should have a beer for everyone. Each brew takes inspiration from Kesennuma’s fishing culture and landscape. At the taproom, visitors can sample several offerings on tap and buy beer and BTB-branded apparel and souvenirs.
