SEE & DO
Isaribi Park
From this place, located halfway up Mt. Hayama, you can see the “isaribi,” or “fishing fires,” from squid fishing boats at night, especially in winter. Squid are attracted to light, gathering at the surface of the sea in response to it. In the olden days, fishermen used to catch them by lighting torches. With the improvement of technology, torches became incandescent bulbs, halogen lamps, and then, LEDs. But the beauty of seeing fishing fires on the horizon with the starry sky and the lights from the town remains unchanged.
