SEE & DO
Mt. Tokusenjo
Mt. Tokusenjo, which is called the best azalea-viewing spot in Japan, is a mountain with an altitude of 711 m on the border between Kesennuma City and the former Motoyoshi town. Native rhododendron and Japanese azaleas are spread over a wide area of 50ha (about 10x the area of the Tokyo Dome), and the number is said to be 500,000. It is in full bloom from the middle of May to the end of May, and it blooms with an overwhelming sense of scale. The whole mountain is dyed red and orange. The view from the top of the mountain presents an exquisite contrast between the red-dyed mountain surface and the cobalt blue of the Pacific Ocean.
